About

tms

I may be an athlete and a fitness coach… but my real full-time job is life coach (AKA mom) to my two little girls, Ama and Seren. Coaching and athletics are more passion than job.

I specialize in Ultra Distance OCR events… most notably the Toughest Mudder Series. I’ve won numerous races from Sprints to UltraBeasts, came in second twice at World’s Toughest Mudder (*sigh* – always a bride’s maid), was the first Western Canadian to win the Spartan Canada Point Series in 2015, and I even won the CBS televised Toughest Mudder series in 2017 (man, how’d THAT happen!). I also took the win at the inaugural Obstacle Course Race World Championships Enduro 24 in 2018. I have now amassed over 50 podiums in the sport of OCR – you can find more of my results on Athlinks.

But none of my races or podiums compare to the biggest challenge of my life.

In 2006 I was struck by a truck at highway speed while riding my bicycle outside Sherwood Park in Alberta and I broke my back, pelvis and arm. I was left with a 24.5% permanent partial disability… including nerve damage and PTSD.

It was a rough transition from high level Ironman athlete and ultramarathon runner to a person incapable of rolling myself over in bed. The pain in your legs from running a 100 miles is nothing compared to the pain in your side from not being able to move off of a sore spot. Trust me.

I had spent the majority of my life totally sedentary, well into my adult years, and have always looked back at those years as lost time exploring and adventuring. I didn’t have the vehicle to truly explore my world. And after I found fitness, it was like all I could do was cruise around revelling in the magic of human powered transportation.

So while recovering from the accident, my brilliant mom suggested I get my first group fitness training certificate through canfitpro. It was genius. Somehow being a part of other peoples journey is SO much more powerful than finding your own way.

Over the years I have coached everything from general fitness to running to STOTT Pilates to Functional Movement Screens… eventually becoming a PRO TRAINER with canfitpro. I’m now one of the few Level 2 Certified Spartan SGX coaches and a Spartan Obstacle Specialist. But my background ranges from rehab – to running – to sport performance. What I’m most proud of as a coach is the huge toolkit I’ve developed over the years through my exposure to so many different disciplines and modalities.

I’ve coached running since 2005, fitness since 2008 and obstacle racing since 2011. Over this time I’ve been hugely fortunate to walk along side all kinds of athletes on their journeys. And it never gets less magical. If you’re interested in working with me, just shoot me an email and we can get the conversation going!

As a coach and speaker, I have been featured on Breakfast Television, the Edmonton Journal, the Edmonton Sun, 1040 Sports Radio, CBC News, The Early Edition, Global News, CBS, and OMNI Television BC. I’ve also guest blogged for the Edmonton Sun’s Health and Fitness blog and the Moose is Loose.
